Heartbreaking: A DUI Hit-and-Run at the Hollywood Museum of Broken Relationships

The Museum of Broken Relationships recently opened on the Hollywood Walk of Fame as a place where visitors could observe the remnants of break-ups and divorces, including photos, letters, and other mementos of relationships gone south. The sad location became all the more sad in September when two pedestrians were struck by a driver who careened off the street and into the museum itself, causing significant property damage and sending both pedestrians to the hospital.

The two pedestrians were a young woman and her mother who was visiting from Michigan for the first time. One woman suffered minor injuries while the other suffered more serious injuries, including deep lacerations. Cell phone footage of the incident showed one woman laying on the hood of the crashed car being treated by paramedics, as pedestrians watched on the extremely busy thoroughfare, home to many tourist attractions.

The driver of the car was a woman in her 30s who plowed her sedan into the museum at 3:10 in the afternoon, and then took off running on foot before police could arrive. The woman was later found and arrested for drunk driving and hit-and-run violations.

What to Do When You are an Injured in a Hit-and-Run

Finding the offending driver was likely not that difficult for the police in this case as the driver left the car at the scene, and there numerous eyewitnesses to the accident, but in many hit-and-runs, locating the driver can be more difficult. Tracking down the driver can be critical for bringing a successful car accident claim for all injuries suffered in a hit-and-run (including medical bills, pain and suffering, and lost income), and so it is important for injured victims and witnesses to contact police immediately and do everything they can to collect information about the crash such as details about the car and driver which can help eventually lead the police to the hit-and-run driver.

An experienced car accident attorney will also work to locate the driver and all liable parties for the purposes of naming those parties as a defendant in personal injury suit for all damages. While police departments may have limited time and resources to track down hit-and-run drivers, an experienced attorney who is primarily interested in your monetary recovery can focus investigative resources on locating the defendant to bring them to justice and win you the full damages you are owed.
